1. Legal Requirements & Paperwork

What are the legal steps to getting married in Australia?

To be legally married in Australia, you must:

  • Lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at least one month before the wedding
  • Provide proof of identity and date of birth
  • Sign a Declaration of No Legal Impediment before the ceremony
  • Include the mandatory legal wording during the ceremony
  • Sign three marriage certificates on the day

I guide you through every step and prepare all documents for you. You can also read more on my Legals-Only Weddings page.

Do you lodge the paperwork for us?

Yes. I prepare, lodge, and submit all legal documents. As part of my premium service, I also apply and pay for your official Marriage Certificate after the wedding so it arrives faster.

What documents do we need to provide?

  • Passport or birth certificate + photo ID
  • Divorce or death certificate (if previously married)
  • Change of name certificate (if applicable)

Can we get married sooner than one month?

A shortening of time is possible in limited circumstances (travel, medical reasons, work commitments). I’ll guide you through the process and help you prepare the application.

How do we change our name after the wedding?

Once your official Marriage Certificate arrives, you can update your name with:

  • Passport Office
  • Medicare
  • Banks
  • ATO
  • Service NSW

2. Choosing a Sydney Marriage Celebrant

How do we choose the right celebrant?

Look for someone who:

  • Makes you feel comfortable
  • Communicates clearly
  • Has strong reviews
  • Offers guidance and structure
  • Matches your style and energy

You can learn more about my approach on my Wedding Ceremonies page.

What makes you different from other celebrants?

Couples tell me they value:

  • A calm, warm, reassuring presence
  • A ceremony that feels natural and personal
  • Clear communication and guidance
  • Professional delivery with warmth and humour
  • One wedding per day — you always have my full focus
  • My premium certificate service (I apply and pay for your official certificate)

How far in advance should we book?

Most couples book 6–18 months ahead, especially for Saturdays and popular Sydney venues.

3. Ceremony Planning FAQs

Can we personalise our ceremony?

Absolutely. Your ceremony should feel like you. I help you shape the tone, structure, and wording so it feels warm, relaxed, and meaningful.

What does a typical ceremony include?

Most ceremonies follow this flow:

  1. Welcome
  2. Your story
  3. Vows
  4. Ring exchange
  5. Legal wording
  6. Signing
  7. Pronouncement

Do you help us write our vows?

Yes — I provide examples, templates, and guidance so your vows feel authentic and natural.

What readings can we include?

I have a curated list of modern, meaningful readings that suit all styles — romantic, light‑hearted, traditional, or contemporary.

Can we include rituals?

Yes. Rituals can add symbolism and emotion. I’ll help you choose something that fits your personalities and doesn’t feel forced.

How long does a ceremony go for?

Most ceremonies run 20–25 minutes, depending on readings, rituals, and personal elements.

What music do we need?

Typically:

  • 1–2 songs for the processional
  • 1 song for signing
  • 1 upbeat song for the recessional

What happens if someone is late?

I keep guests calm, adjust the timeline, and ensure everything still feels relaxed and seamless.

Where should we stand?

I’ll guide you on positioning so you feel comfortable and your photos look great.

Do you bring a PA system?

Yes — I bring a professional wireless PA system suitable for indoor and outdoor ceremonies.

Do you travel across Sydney?

Yes — I regularly officiate weddings across the Eastern Suburbs, Sydney Harbour venues, North Shore, Mosman, Kirribilli, and waterfront locations. You can explore some of my favourite venues here: Sydney Wedding Venues.

5. After the Ceremony

Yes — I keep a secure copy and can resend it anytime.
